Many people, especially those who live in colder climates, dream about vacations on warm beaches under a tropical sun. Some of us imagine lying on white sand, sipping a drink and dozing through the afternoon. Those of us who are more active want something fairly athletic to do, at least for part of the day. Diving is an excellent pass time in tropical climates. What better way to spend an afternoon than swimming around a coral reef, watching the colorful fish and marveling at the sea plants growing out of the reef? Even if you have no diving experience, you can still plan a vacation that includes it. There are travel agencies that offer a wide range of scuba diving vacations, including a crash course that will teach you the basics. Most of your first day will be spent learning about the equipment and some basic safety rules, then you will be taken diving in local waters. You will get the chance to explore reefs, skim the bottom of shallow bays looking for shells or other rarities, and swim amid schools of fish. After a semi-strenuous but very pleasant day of activity, you can return to your hotel for dinner, all included in the price. Of course, you can also dive closer to home. Anyone who lives near an ocean or lake can dive there; keep in mind that many will be quite cold, making a wetsuit a necessity. You can also start diving at a local training center, where you can take classes before going on vacation or just as a hobby.
